How It Works
A tailor at your address, in five simple steps
Dr. Alter’s mobile alteration service is designed around one principle — your
time should not be spent travelling to a tailor. Here is exactly what to expect
from the moment you book.
01
Book your visit
Use the booking form, call us or WhatsApp us to schedule your appointment. Choose a date and time that suits you — morning, afternoon or evening slots including weekends depending on availability. At booking we confirm your address, postcode coverage, a rough list of garments and the visit fee. No payment is taken at booking.
02
Your tailor arrives
Your Dr. Alter tailor arrives at your address at the agreed time. Bring the garments — and the shoes or accessories you plan to wear with them. The fitting takes place in your space. You try on each garment, the tailor discusses adjustments, pins and marks the work and confirms exactly what will be done. No rushing, no other customers waiting.
03
Garments are collected
After the consultation, your garments are collected and taken to the Dr. Alter workshop. Every item is individually tagged with your name, the agreed alterations and the return date. Nothing is mixed up, lost or altered without your approval.
04
Alterations are completed
Your garments are altered to the exact specification agreed at the fitting. Every piece goes through a quality check before it is returned. Standard turnaround is 3–5 working days. Express 24–48 hour service is available on request.
05
Returned to your door
Your altered garments are returned to your address — pressed, finished and ready to wear. Delivery is included in the service. You do not need to travel or collect from any location.
Before your visit
What to prepare
- The garments you want altered — washed and in reasonable condition
- The shoes you plan to wear with each garment, particularly for trouser and dress hems
- Any specific instructions — preferred trouser break, dress length, jacket fit
- A clear space to try on garments — a full-length mirror is helpful but not essential
Visit fees
Transparent from the start
A visit fee applies to all home, office and hotel appointments. This covers the tailor’s travel and consultation time. The visit fee is separate from alteration charges and is confirmed at booking.
Visit fees vary by postcode and are kept as low as possible. There is no minimum alteration spend at Dr. Alter.
Answers
Frequently asked
Do I need to be home for the collection and return?
Yes — someone needs to be present at both the fitting appointment and the return delivery. If you cannot be present for the return, we can arrange an alternative collection point or a second delivery attempt.
Can I add garments after the fitting appointment?
Additional garments can be added to your order — contact us after the fitting and we will discuss whether another visit is needed or whether items can be dropped off at an agreed point.
What if I am not happy with the alteration?
Dr. Alter will correct any alteration that does not match what was agreed at the fitting at no additional charge. We ask you to try the garments upon return and contact us within 48 hours if any adjustment is needed.
Can you come to my hotel room in London?
Yes — hotel fittings are available. We serve guests at hotels across Central London. Book as normal and specify the hotel name and room number at the time of booking.
How far in advance should I book?
For standard alterations, booking 5–7 days ahead of when you need the garments is ideal. For urgent or time-sensitive work, contact us directly — express slots may be available.
